Want to lead? Do less.

I was speaking to a leader yesterday who was feeling burned out because she was struggling to keep on top of everything. I asked her what she meant by “everything” - and it was soon very obvious that she genuinely was trying to handle everything on her plate.

But leadership isn't doing everything. In fact, if you take everything on, you're not going to be leading, you're going to be swept along with current (or back-to-back Teams calls).

You need to get really good:

* at saying no,

* at descoping things,

* at spotting when you need to lean more into your superpower,

* at asking for help,

* at delegating things that are better done by others,

* at accepting that you can't please everyone so your choice is really who you're going to disappoint - don't let it be yourself.
